------------------

Alicia gaped as she stared at George. Ever since she got to know him, she’d never once run out of things to say to him. But for once in her life, she was absolutely speechless.

“So?” George prompted.

“Oh, George,” she sighed, “Are you sure you want to do this?”

George grinned. “I’m kneeling on one knee, proposing to you with my mother’s engagement ring. Do you not think that I’ve thought this over a billion times before I asked?”

“And you’re wearing a suit!”

George rolled his eyes. “Of all things to notice, you pick on my attire. What happened to complimenting my splendid looks?”

Alicia grinned. “You know I think you are amazing, you don’t need me to tell you that.”

George nodded. “Fair enough… So will you or will you not marry me?”

“But…” she spluttered, “But I am not the sort of woman men marry!”

He looked up at her and replied evenly, “And I am not the sort of man women marry, so I believe we’re even. In fact, we should just get married and save the other hopefuls a lot of trouble.”

Alicia couldn’t help herself, she laughed. “Hopefuls?”

George nodded, though the corner of his lips tipped up in a small grin. “Yes, hopefuls, loads of them. If you don’t marry me now, you’ll be spending the rest of your days trying to hex women who think themselves eligible to be my wife.”

Alicia doubled over laughing.

Oi, woman!” George exclaimed, “I’m trying to help you out here and I would appreciate you being serious about it.”

“Oh, George…” she murmured. “I don’t think I know what to say!”

“Don’t think,” George replied, like it was the easiest thing, “Just follow your instincts.”

“Instincts tell me that you’re a bad man to marry,” she said with a grin.

“Alright, I get it. Don’t follow your instincts.” He paused to think. “Follow that voice at the back of your head that would sound freakishly like Lee.”

Alicia laughed. “Lee says to say yes.”

“I think Lee is right. Isn’t he?” It was hard to miss the hopefulness in his voice and Alicia had to smile at that.

“Yes, George,” Alicia grinned, “I’ll marry you.”

George drew her into a hug, raining kisses on her face. “I think I love Lee.”

Alicia laughed. “I think I love you.”

“You know what?” George asked.

“What?”

“I know I love you.”
